Sharing an article of mine in Hindi Newspaper Hindustan, regarding Syria, which is becoming a playground for power play between domestic, regional and extra regional forces. The situation is no different after two years of the prediction, with Turkey driving the Kurds out, US pull out and abandoning Kurds after using them in their fight against ISIS, and Russia continuing to back Assad forces, being alleged for use of chemical weapons. Coupled with the threat of coronavirus, this power play has been responsible for one of the largest refugee influx in neighbouring regions. The ambition of President Erdogen for leadership of Muslim world and Wahabi ideology has added to destabilisation of the region and miseries of many innocents. The ISIS is the happiest in this turbulence, having got another lifeline to emerge again.

There is no respite for innocent Syrian population stuck between the militants, rebals and the air strikes of Western countries or Syria itself hunting for rebels of Assad’s Forces. Airstrikes on a village in rebel-held Syria have killed at least 44 civilians and injured a further 80, in June 2018, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) has said, in the biggest attack in the area so far this year.
Air and artillery strikes by the US and its allies inflicted devastating loss of life on civilians in the Isis-held city of Raqqa, according to an Amnesty International report. It contradicts claims by the US, along with Britain and France, that they precisely targeted Isis fighters and positions during the four month siege that destroyed large swathes of the city. As per Amnesty International ‘More artillery shells were launched into Raqqa than anywhere since the end of the Vietnam war’
